Melpomene: The Muse Of Tragedy

I stumbled across this type earlier in the year whilst exploring the South Bank. I like the way that the brick creates texture in the bold white sans serif type, which sits in contrast with the dark layers of flaking paint below. The imperfections brought by the texture add character to the letterforms, which I feel compliments the handcrafted feel that is created through the use of stencils and inconsistent letter spacing.

It will be interesting to see how this type changes over time as the paint begins to weather. Perhaps it will become part of the background as it is painted over by something new.
